Coldplay is set to dominate the world again. The band's new record, entitled Viva La Vida, is named after a painting by artist Frida Kahlo. The title translates as "long live life". It's scheduled for release on June 17.
Frontman Chris Martin said he decided to name the album after Kahlo's painting as he found her life inspirational. Kahlo had suffered from polio, a broken spine, and chronic pain for decades. "She went through a lot of shit, of course, and then she started a big painting in her house that said 'Viva la Vida,'" says Martin. “I just loved the boldness of it."
I'm curious to hear how it sounds. I liked X & Y, didn't love it. I have to say I still think Parachutes is my favorite because it was so dark and stripped down.
**Update** According to the Coldplay.com, the new album will be entitled Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends. Seems like they were having some second thoughts.
