Austin City Limits Day 1
So we are half way through day one and I just wanted to do a quick recap of today's events so far. Today has been an exciting day. I was able to get out to the festival early and meet with my favorite news station here in Austin, News 8 Austin. They are doing a small feature on how blogs play a part in the festival and were kind of enough to interview me for that. Kind of weird to be asked the questions instead of the other way around. It was a lot of fun and I want to thank them for that. I will post a link to the story when it is available later this evening. But on to the recap (so far)...
Asleep At The Wheel - Kind of out of my element, but that is never a bad thing. I found out later that they always start off the festival. I was glad to see them and they paid tribute to the late Ann Richards. They play great Texas country music and News 8 hung out me with for a little bit of the show, Crestina Chavez, you are awesome.
The Dears - Been waiting to see these guys for a while. Of course they didn't disapoint, as if a band out of Montreal right now would. My only wish is that I was more familiar with the band. the songs were excellent and I will be picking up the album soon.
Mishka - Read the other day that Matthew McConaughey has been managing this artist, sparked my curiousity so I went out. It is great music, A Canadian performing reggae? And yes Matt was there dancing on the side of the stage the whole time. And yes I did get a pic that I will post with the photos later.
deadboy and Elephantmen - Was not really into it, could have been the heat getting to me though. Although I saw them last month and it didn't impress me either. Can't win them all I guess.
Wolf Parade - The highlight of my day and one of the reason I was most excited about the festival. They played a great set. If you haven't heard them click on the video below. They also did me a favor and played all of my favorite songs early in the set. Giving me enough time to get a good spot for Gnarls Barkley.
Gnarls Barkley - The heat got to me. And got to everyone else from what it seemed. They played a great set, too similar to the last one I saw, but good. But you could feel the sun wearing down the crowd, not to mention the band themselves. They came out as scientists and of course despite all that it was fun.
All I got for now, back with the other half and pics later tonight...
